all writing

Hello, world

A short note on what this site is and what I'm going to put here.

First post. There will be more.

I've been writing software since 2012 and I wanted somewhere to put the longer thoughts, the ones that don't fit in a tweet or a Slack DM. Not a newsletter. Not a content farm. Just a file on a server I own, in plain text, that I can link people to when I need to.

Why a personal site

Two reasons.

One, I have side projects scattered across the internet: an Android game, a couple of utilities, an old experiment or two. Every time I explain one of them I reach for a link that doesn't exist. This fixes that.

Two, the best technical writing I read tends to live on personal sites. Not Medium, not a company blog, just someone's .dev domain with bad CSS and an opinion. I'd rather add to that pile than not.

What you'll find here

Mostly whatever I'm thinking about. Probably some of this:

  • Debugging stories where the bug turned out to be three layers deeper than I thought
  • Things I've learned the hard way about migrations, on-call, and the messy middle of shipping something
  • Opinions about languages and tools that I'll probably regret in a year
  • Occasional write-ups of side projects

No theme. No schedule. If it's worth writing down I'll write it down.
